SVL Open House!
October 18, 2008 from Noon to 5 PM. Come visit SVL and see our progress and watch some trains run!
Founded in 1979, Silicon Valley Lines (SVL) is an HO Scale Model Rail road Club located in San Jose, California. In 1999, we moved to our current loca tion on 148 E. Virginia Street in San Jose, where our new 23' x 72' layout is now in operation.
SVL operates trains using digital command control (DCC), which allows engineers to control locomotives independently on the same track.
We have a new Online Layout Tour in progress!!
Layout Design Operations SIG Video
SVL hosted an operating session for the NMRA Layout Design & Operations Sig on Feburary 3rd 2007. Henry Wagner, one of our members captured the event on video, which features some great views of trains running on the layout.

Summer Open House Video
Here is a bonus video of our summer 2006 Open House. In this video we follow the California Zephyr as it travels through about 60% of the railroad.
Members are given train orders and must coordinate with the dispatcher to obtain track warrants to complete their switching tasks in a timely fashion. The train orders are generated using Albion Software's ShipIt! software.
Our layout is constructed using some unique benchwork building techniques, with much of the layout supported by structural steel components.
Visitors are welcome to visit us at our club any Friday evening, after 7:30PM. The first Friday of each month is the club business meeting, the last Friday is “Operations Night,” and all other Fridays are work-nights. Some folks leave at 10PM, some stay until midnight or so, and a group of night owls usually adjourn to a nearby Denny’s.
Membership is open, and we’re always looking for new folks to help build, operate, and enjoy HO Scale Model Railroading. Click here for directions to SVL.If you have additional questions, feel free to email us at: svl@siliconvalleylines.com
